Fatal Motorcycle Crash - On September 2, 2026, at approximately 4:53 p.m., the Franklin County Office of Emergency Management and Communications received a 911 call reporting a motorcycle crash on Yellow Banks Road in rural Franklin County. The caller reported that the operator of the motorcycle had been injured.Deputies and emergency medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, and Air Evac Lifeteam was also requested.Upon arrival, first responders determined that the single occupant of the motorcycle had sustained serious injuries. The operator was loaded into an Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter for transport to a trauma facility. Due to the severity of the operator's injuries, the helicopter diverted to Franklin Hospital. The preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Yellow Banks Road when the operator lost control and left the south side of the roadway. The operator, a 68-year-old male from Crossville, Tennessee, was pronounced deceased at Franklin Hospital.Agencies assisting at the scene included the Benton Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, and Air Evac Lifeteam. The crash remains under investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Franklin County Coroners Office.
Health Monitoring System Installed in the Franklin County Jail - The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office recently installed a new state-of-the-art health monitoring system within a medical holding cell at the Franklin County Jail. The system, manufactured by Reassurance Solutions, utilizes ultra-wideband radar detection technology to continuously monitor an individual’s heart rate, respiratory rate, and motion without requiring wearable devices or direct physical contact.County jails are increasingly being called upon to provide a higher level of medical care due to the long-term and chronic health conditions of many incarcerated individuals. This technology will provide jail staff with an additional tool to assist in the early detection of a potential medical emergency and allow for a more timely response when an individual’s health condition may be changing. The implementation of this system enhances the ability of correctional staff to monitor detainees who may have significant medical concerns. While the technology does not replace direct observation and the care provided by medical professionals and jail staff, it provides an additional layer of monitoring and valuable information to assist staff in identifying potential emergencies. The purchase and installation of this equipment was made possible through a grant provided by the Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust (ICRMT).
