Statement from Sheriff Kyle Bacon on National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week:The first 911 call in the United States was placed on February 16, 1968 in Haleyville, Alabama. 911 is now widely used across our country for reporting emergencies and requesting assistance from police, fire and emergency medical services. Those answering 911 calls and dispatching services have extraordinary dedication to helping the public in their times of crisis. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office employs a total of 8 Public Safety Telecommunicators. In 2023 they dispatched a total of 19,587 calls for service and answered 9,192 911 calls. During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week we extend great gratitude and appreciation to not only the Sheriff's Office TC's but to those working in multiple dispatch centers in Franklin County. Your professionalism, compassion, and quick thinking save lives every day, often under intense pressure and stress. Your work is appreciated and invaluable. Thank you!
